Frequently asked questions

What is compound interest?
Interest that is added to your balance and then earns interest itself. Over time the growth speeds up, because each period's interest is worked out on a bigger amount.
What is the compound interest formula?
A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n × t), where P is the starting amount, r the yearly rate as a decimal, n the number of times interest is compounded each year and t the number of years. 1,000 at 5% compounded yearly for 10 years grows to about 1,628.89.
Does compounding more often make a difference?
A little. Monthly compounding earns slightly more than yearly at the same rate; daily compounding adds only a tiny bit more again.
When are monthly deposits added?
At the end of each month, after that month's interest.
Are these results guaranteed?
No. They're estimates only, not financial advice. Real rates change over time, and taxes and fees aren't included.
