Frequently asked questions

Which barcode type should I use?
For products sold in shops, use EAN-13 (most of the world) or UPC-A (US and Canada). For shipping, stock and asset labels, Code 128 is the usual choice because it holds letters and numbers.
Can I get a barcode number for my product here?
No. Retail EAN and UPC numbers are issued by GS1, the official numbering body. This tool draws the barcode for a number you already have; it doesn't issue or register numbers.
What is a check digit?
The last digit of an EAN, UPC or ITF-14 code, worked out from the other digits so scanners can spot a misread. Type the code without it and it's added for you; type it with one and it's checked.
PNG or SVG?
SVG stays sharp at any size and suits print and design software. PNG works everywhere and is drawn at high resolution.
Can I use the barcodes commercially?
Yes. The barcodes you make are yours to use however you like.
