Where do the exchange rates come from?

How often are the rates updated?
Rates are updated daily, on every working day, usually in the afternoon Central European Time. The date of the rates in use is shown under the converter. There are no new rates on weekends and public holidays.
Why is my bank's rate different?
These are reference rates, a mid-market guide. Banks, card providers and exchange offices add their own margin or fees, so treat the results as estimates only, not a quote.
How do you convert two currencies that aren't the euro, like USD to INR?
Both are converted through the euro: the dollar is turned into euros at its reference rate, then the euros into rupees. This is the standard way to work out a cross rate from euro reference rates.
Which currencies are included?
The euro and about 30 others, including the US dollar, British pound, Indian rupee, Japanese yen, Chinese yuan, Canadian and Australian dollars, Swiss franc and Singapore dollar.
