Best Weight Tracker Apps Compared: Which One Suits You?
Happy Scale, Libra, MyFitnessPal, Lose It!, the Withings app and a free Weight Tracker compared: how each logs your weight, and who each suits.
Updated · 9 min read
A weight tracker app records your weigh-ins and shows you which way your weight is going. The main apps take different approaches. Happy Scale on iPhone and Libra on Android are built around a smoothed trend line. MyFitnessPal and Lose It! are calorie counters with a weight log built in. The Withings app pairs with a Withings smart scale and records each weigh-in for you. The Weight Tracker is a free app that installs from your browser and shows a smoothed trend, your BMI and a goal date worked out at a safe pace.
There is no single best weight tracker app. The right one is the one that fits how you weigh yourself and that you will keep opening. This guide compares the main weight tracker apps and says who each one suits.
This comparison is based on what each product is designed for. Plans, prices and features change, so check each app's own site before you decide.

Who each one suits
Happy Scale
Happy Scale is an iPhone app built around a smoothed trend. Your daily weigh-ins feed a moving average, so you see the direction rather than each day's number. You can set goals and smaller milestones on the way. It can read weigh-ins from Apple Health, so it works with many scales that write to Health.
Choose Happy Scale if you use an iPhone and want your weight to come in from Apple Health. If you already use it and like it, it does a similar job to the Weight Tracker. Check its listing for current plans.
Libra
Libra is an Android app with the same idea. You log your weight and it draws a smoothed trend and estimates when you will reach your goal.
Choose Libra if you use Android and want a focused weight log with a goal estimate. Check its listing for current plans.
MyFitnessPal
MyFitnessPal is a calorie counter first. You log meals from a food database, and it tracks calories and nutrients. Weight is one of the things you log, next to your food and exercise. It connects with many other fitness apps and devices.
Choose MyFitnessPal if you want to count calories and track your weight in the same place. It suits people who want to see how what they eat lines up with their weight. It has a free version and paid plans; check its site for what each includes.
Lose It!
Lose It! is also a calorie counter. You set a weight goal, it gives you a daily calorie budget, and you log food and weight against it. It also lets you scan food barcodes to log meals.
Choose Lose It! if your plan is to lose weight by counting calories and you want an app that sets the budget for you. It has a free version and paid plans; check its site for details.
Withings app
The Withings app is the companion app for Withings smart scales and other Withings devices. Step on the scale and your weight, and on some models other body readings, appear in the app without typing anything.
Choose the Withings app if you own a Withings scale or plan to buy one. Automatic weigh-ins remove the typing step, which makes the habit easier to keep. The same advice applies to other smart scales: if you have one, its own app is usually the easiest way to log. Check Withings' site for which features come with the scale and which are part of a paid plan.
Weight Tracker
The Weight Tracker is the EveryApp weight tracker. You log your weight each day in kilograms, pounds or stones. The app draws a smoothed trend as the main line on the chart, with your daily weigh-ins shown as faint dots. Add your height and a goal weight to see your BMI, your progress and an estimated date for your goal.
Choose the Weight Tracker if you use an ordinary bathroom scale and want a clear trend with no setup. It suits people who switch between a phone and a computer, people who find the daily number stressful, and anyone who wants their weigh-ins to stay on their own device. It is free to use.
What the Weight Tracker does well
- The trend comes first. Water, salt, food and the time of day can move the scale from one day to the next. The trend averages your weigh-ins so you see the real direction.
- Careful goal dates. The estimate comes from how fast your trend has moved over the last four weeks. It never assumes more than about 1% of your weight a week.
- Safe goals. A goal can't go below a BMI of 18.5 for your height, the bottom of the healthy range.
- Hide the numbers if you want. Choose Trend only to see just the smoothed trend. Choose Hide numbers to see only which way it's going.
- Body measurements. On the Body tab, log your waist, hips, chest, neck, upper arm, thigh and body fat, and see each one on a chart over time.
- Your units. Weight in kg, pounds or stones, height in cm or inches. Switch any time.
- Export to a spreadsheet. Download every weigh-in as a CSV file to take to a doctor or coach.
- Works offline. Install the app and logging and your charts work with no connection. If you've turned on sync, your weigh-ins sync when you're back online.
- Installs from the browser. On iPhone, open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open it in Chrome and tap Install. On a computer, it runs in the browser and can be installed there too. You don't need an app store.
- Private by design. Your weigh-ins stay on your device unless you choose to sync them to your EveryApp account. You can download or delete them any time.
What the Weight Tracker doesn't do
Be clear about the limits. The Weight Tracker doesn't connect to smart scales, so it can't log a weigh-in for you. You type each one in. It doesn't sync with Apple Health or Google Fit, which Happy Scale, MyFitnessPal and Lose It! can do. It can't import a CSV file of past weigh-ins, so moving years of history from another app means typing it in or starting fresh.
It doesn't count calories or plan meals. If you want that, MyFitnessPal and Lose It! are built for it, or try the free Calorie Counter alongside the Weight Tracker. It also gives no coaching or diet plan. It shows you your trend and leaves the plan to you.
Weigh-ins are never capped. The trend, BMI, goal estimate, milestones, every chart range, CSV export and one daily reminder are free, along with body measurements for one day. Pro adds body measurements on every day you measure and up to three weigh-in reminders. You don't need Pro to track your weight.
How to choose
Start with how you weigh yourself. A feature list comes second. Ask yourself these questions.
Do you have a smart scale? If yes, start with the scale's own app. Weigh-ins that log themselves are the easiest habit to keep. If you use an ordinary scale, any app here works, and typing a number takes a few seconds.
Do you want to count calories too? If your plan is built on calories, pick a calorie counter with a weight log, such as MyFitnessPal or Lose It!. If you only want to track your weight, a focused weight app is quicker to use each day.
Do you want a trend or the raw number? Daily weight jumps around. A trend line shows the real direction and is less likely to put you off. Happy Scale, Libra and the Weight Tracker all put the trend first.
Does the daily number stress you? Some people do better without seeing the exact figure every morning. Look for an app that can hide it. The Weight Tracker has Trend only and Hide numbers modes.
Which devices do you use? Some apps run on one kind of phone only. Happy Scale is for iPhone and Libra is for Android. If you switch phones or want to check on a computer, pick an app that runs on all of them.
Who can see your data? Weight is personal. Check where each app stores your weigh-ins and whether you can delete them. An app that keeps data on your device unless you choose to sync lets you decide where it goes.
What will you pay? Most apps here have a free version with a paid plan for more. Try the free version for a few weeks first. A steady weigh-in habit matters more than the app.

- If you want weigh-ins to come in from Apple Health, Happy Scale is a good fit. If you'd rather not install from the App Store, the Weight Tracker installs from Safari and works on iPhone too. If you have a Withings scale, use the Withings app.
- What is the best weight tracker app for Android?
- Libra is an Android app built around a trend line. The Weight Tracker installs from Chrome on Android and shows the same kind of trend, plus body measurements and a way to hide the numbers.
- Is there a free weight tracker app?
- Yes. The Weight Tracker is free to use, with no cap on weigh-ins. Happy Scale, Libra, MyFitnessPal and Lose It! each have a free version, with paid options for more; check each one's site for what is included.
- Why does my weight go up and down every day?

- No. You type each weigh-in yourself. If you have a smart scale, its own app logs weigh-ins for you and may suit you better.
- Does the Weight Tracker work offline?
- Yes. Install the app and logging and your charts work with no connection. If you've turned on sync, your weigh-ins sync when you're back online.
- Can I install the Weight Tracker without an app store?
- Yes, from your browser and free. On iPhone, open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open it in Chrome and tap Install. On a computer, it runs in the browser.
- How do I know what a healthy weight is for me?
- BMI is a rough guide. Check yours with the free BMI calculator, and read our guide to ideal weight for your height. BMI and body fat are not a diagnosis. Talk to a doctor before starting a diet or a new exercise plan.
