Best Medication Reminder Apps Compared: Which Suits You?
Medisafe, MyTherapy, Apple Health, Samsung Health and a free Medication Reminder compared: what each does well, and who each one suits.
Updated · 9 min read
A medication reminder app tells you when a dose is due and keeps a record of what you took. That sounds simple, and the basic job is the same in every app. The differences are in the extras. Some check your medicines for interactions. Some track symptoms and health readings too. Some come built into your phone. Some let a family member help. The Medication Reminder app is the EveryApp option: a daily checklist, refill counts and reminders that never say what you take.
There is no single best medication reminder app. The right one is the one that fits your phone, your schedule and the people who help you. This guide compares the main medication reminder apps and says who each one suits.
This comparison is based on what each product is designed for. Plans, prices and features change, so check each app's own site before you decide. No app replaces your doctor or pharmacist. Always follow your prescription.

Who each one suits
Medisafe
Medisafe is a dedicated pill reminder app. You add your medicines, get a reminder at each dose time and log each dose. It can warn you about known interactions between the medicines on your list. Its Medfriend feature lets a family member or carer get a message if you miss a dose. It also tracks refills.
Choose Medisafe if you take several medicines and want interaction warnings in the same app as your reminders. It suits people who want a family member to hear about missed doses. It has a free version and a paid premium plan.
MyTherapy
MyTherapy is a pill reminder with a health diary built in. Besides dose reminders and refill reminders, you can log symptoms, how you feel and readings such as blood pressure or weight. You can then share a report with your doctor.
Choose MyTherapy if you live with a long-term condition and want your medicines and your symptoms in one place. It suits people who keep a record for regular check-ups. Check their site for what is free and what costs extra.
Apple Health (Medications)
On recent iPhones, the Health app has a Medications section. You add a medicine, set a schedule and get a reminder at each dose time. You log doses on your iPhone or Apple Watch. In some regions it can also warn about interactions between medicines on your list. It is part of the Health app, so there is nothing extra to download.
Choose Apple Health if you use an iPhone, and maybe an Apple Watch, and you want a quick start with nothing to set up elsewhere. It suits people who already keep other health data in the Health app. It does not run on Android, so it is a poor fit for a family that mixes phones.
Samsung Health (Medications)
Samsung Health has a Medications feature on Samsung Galaxy phones. You add your medicines, set reminders and log each dose. It sits next to the rest of your Samsung Health data. Availability varies by phone and country, so check that it appears in your app.
Choose Samsung Health if you have a Samsung phone and already use Samsung Health for steps, sleep or heart rate. It keeps your medicines next to the rest of your health data. It does not run on iPhone.
Medication Reminder
Medication Reminder is the EveryApp medication app. You add each medicine with its dose and schedule: every day, some days, every few days or when needed. At each dose time you get a reminder, and you tick the dose taken or skipped on a daily checklist. The app counts down your supply and tells you when it is low.
Choose Medication Reminder if you want reminders that keep your medicines private, a refill count and an easy way to help a parent or child with theirs. It suits people who use more than one kind of device, and families where people have different phones. It is free to use.
What Medication Reminder does well
- Discreet reminders. Notifications only say "Time for your medicine". Names and doses stay inside the app, so anyone who glances at your phone sees nothing private. Reminders for a time go quiet once every dose at that time is ticked off.
- One checklist for every schedule. Daily tablets, medicines on certain weekdays, ones every few days and ones you take only when needed all sit on the same list.
- Refill counts. Enter how many you have and how many each dose uses. The count goes down as you tick doses, shows about how many days are left and reminds you when it gets low.
- Care for someone else. Start a list for a parent or child and set up their medicines and reminders. Send them a link. They sign in, get their own reminders and tick off doses on their own phone. You can invite other family members as carers who can change medicines, or to look only. Anyone can leave a list at any time.
- Insights. See how often doses were taken on time, by week, by day, by medicine and by time of day.
- Ready for appointments. Print a tidy list of what you take, or export your dose history as a CSV spreadsheet for your doctor or pharmacist.
- Works offline. Install the app and your medicine list, checklist and refill counts work with no connection. If you've turned on sync, the doses you tick sync when you're back online.
- Installs from the browser. On iPhone, open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open it in Chrome and tap Install. On a computer, it runs in the browser. You don't need an app store.
- Private by design. Your medicines stay on your device unless you choose to sync them to your EveryApp account. You can download or delete them any time.
What Medication Reminder doesn't do
Be clear about the limits. It doesn't check your medicines for interactions, so if you want warnings, Medisafe or Apple Health fit that better. It doesn't keep a symptom or health-reading diary, which MyTherapy does. It doesn't scan pill bottles or link to Apple Health or Samsung Health. It doesn't give medical advice. If you miss a dose, it never tells you to take two to catch up. Check your medicine's leaflet or ask your pharmacist.
Reminders need a free EveryApp account. On iPhone, the app must be on your Home Screen for reminders to arrive.
The free plan covers up to four medicines, ten reminders, the daily checklist, refill counts, insights, the printable list, CSV export and looking after one other person's list. Logging doses is never capped. Pro adds more medicines, up to 80 reminders, a second nudge when a dose isn't ticked off, more people in a shared list and looking after more than one person's medicines.
How to choose
Start with your phone and your routine. The feature list comes second. Ask yourself these questions.
Which phone do you use? If you only use an iPhone, the Medications section in Apple Health is already there. If you have a Samsung phone, Samsung Health has a similar feature. If your family mixes iPhones and Android phones, or you want your list on a computer too, choose an app that runs on all of them, such as Medisafe, MyTherapy or Medication Reminder.
Do you want interaction warnings? If you take several medicines from different doctors, a warning about clashes can help. Medisafe offers this, and Apple Health does in some regions. Your pharmacist can also check for clashes.
Do you track more than medicines? If you also record symptoms, mood or readings for your doctor, MyTherapy keeps them in one diary. If you only want blood pressure, a separate log works too.
Does someone help you with your medicines? For a parent, a child or a partner, check how the app shares. Medisafe can alert a family member about a missed dose. Medication Reminder lets a carer set up the whole list while the person ticks off doses on their own phone.
Do you mind others seeing your reminders? Many reminders show the medicine name on the lock screen. If you'd rather keep that private, Medication Reminder's notifications never name what you take.
Do you run out? If you often notice too late that a box is empty, pick an app with refill counts. Medisafe, MyTherapy and Medication Reminder all handle refills; check how the built-in phone apps do it on your device.
Will you tick it every day? The reminder app that works is the one you actually use. A short checklist you open each morning will do more than a feature-packed app you ignore.

- The water tracker helps you drink enough through the day.
- The habit tracker keeps daily routines such as walks or stretches on track.
- The sleep tracker records when you sleep and how well.
