Frequently asked questions
- What do the two numbers mean?
- The top number (systolic) is the pressure when your heart beats; the bottom number (diastolic) is the pressure between beats. Both are in millimetres of mercury (mmHg).
- What are the blood pressure categories?
- Under the 2017 ACC/AHA guideline for adults: normal is below 120/80; elevated is 120–129 with a bottom number below 80; stage 1 is 130–139 or 80–89; stage 2 is 140 or higher or 90 or higher. Your doctor may set a different target for you.
- What if a reading is very high?
- At 180/120 or above, rest for 5 minutes and measure again. If it's still that high, call your doctor; with chest pain, shortness of breath, back pain, numbness, weakness, vision changes or difficulty speaking, call emergency services. The app always shows this with a very high reading.
- Can I print my readings for my doctor?
- Yes, free. The Report tab makes a one-page summary with your averages, a chart and every reading, ready to print or save as a PDF.
- Who can see my readings?
- Only you. They're kept in your EveryApp account with your permission, never sold or used for ads, and you can download or delete them any time.
- Is Blood Pressure Log free?
- Yes. It's free to use, with no sign-up and nothing to install.
