You can combine PDFs on an iPhone or Android phone without installing anything. Open the free PDF merger in Safari or Chrome, tap to choose your PDFs, put them in order with the arrow buttons, and tap Merge. The finished file saves to your phone's Downloads. It's free, needs no account, and the files are merged on the phone itself, so nothing is uploaded.
The hard part on a phone is rarely the merging. It's finding the files. PDFs arrive as email attachments, WhatsApp documents, downloads from a college or bank portal, or scans from a scanner app, and each of those puts them somewhere slightly different. So this guide starts there.
Step 1: Get your PDFs into one place
A browser can only open files saved on your phone. Before you start, make sure each PDF is actually saved, not just visible inside another app.
On iPhone:
- Mail attachment: open the PDF, tap the Share button, then Save to Files. Pick a folder you'll remember, such as Downloads.
- WhatsApp document: open it, tap Share, then Save to Files.
- Downloaded in Safari: it's already in Files, in the Downloads folder.
On Android:
- Gmail attachment: tap the download icon on the attachment. It goes to Downloads.
- WhatsApp document: open it and use the menu to save or share it to your files. Saved documents usually show up under Documents or Downloads in your Files app.
- Downloaded in Chrome: it's in Downloads.
Putting everything in one folder first makes the next step much quicker, especially on iPhone, where you can select several files from the same folder in one go.
Step 2: Merge them in the browser
- Open the free PDF merger in Safari, Chrome or any other browser.
- Tap Choose PDF files. Your phone's file picker opens.
- Go to the folder with your PDFs and select them.
- iPhone: in the Files picker, tap Select, tick each file, then tap Open.
- Android: in the file picker, long-press the first file, tap the others, then tap Select (the wording varies a little between phones).
- Missed one? Tap Add more PDFs and pick it.
- Check the numbered list. Tap ↑ or ↓ next to a file to move it, or Remove to drop it. Long file names are cut short on a narrow screen; turning the phone sideways shows more of each name.
- Tap Merge N PDFs.
- Tap Download merged PDF.
Step 3: Find the merged file
- iPhone: Safari asks whether to download. Tap Download, then find
merged.pdfin the Files app under Downloads. From there you can rename it (press and hold, then Rename) or share it straight to Mail or WhatsApp. - Android: the file goes to Downloads. Chrome usually shows an Open prompt at the bottom of the screen as well.
Give the file a clear name before you send it. merged.pdf means nothing to the person receiving it.
Got photos instead of PDFs?
This happens a lot on phones: some of your documents are PDFs, but others are photos you took of a certificate or a receipt. The merger only takes PDFs, so convert the photos first:
- Open the free JPG to PDF converter, choose your photos, and create a PDF.
- Open the merger and add that new PDF along with your other PDFs.
- Order and merge.
If every document is a photo, you don't need the merger at all. The JPG to PDF converter already puts many images into one PDF. Our guide on turning phone photos into one PDF covers that, and scanning documents to PDF for online forms shows how to keep the file small enough for an upload limit.
Phone tips that save time
- Large files and older phones. Each PDF can be up to 100 MB, and up to 30 files can be merged at once, but everything happens in your phone's memory. If an older phone struggles with a big batch, merge in two smaller groups and then merge those two results.
- Keep the screen on. If the phone locks during a long merge, the browser may pause. It only takes a few seconds for typical documents, but don't switch apps until the download button appears.
- Password-protected PDFs (common for bank statements) can't be merged. Remove the password first, then merge: Unlock PDF can do that if you know the password (free for PDFs up to 25 MB), or use a PDF reader.
- Page order inside a file can't be changed in the merger; it orders whole files. To reorder pages, use the free PDF splitter after merging: choose One PDF with these pages and type the order you want, such as
1, 3, 2, 4-10. Pages come out in the order you type. The desktop merging guide has more on this.
Why a browser instead of an app
Many PDF apps ask for an account, show ads between steps, or upload your documents to their servers. EveryApp's free PDF merger runs entirely in your browser: the files are combined on your phone and never uploaded. There's nothing to install or uninstall afterwards.
Merge on your phone now
Open the free PDF merger on your phone, choose your PDFs, set the order and download a single file. It takes about a minute.
