How to play Minesweeper
- Pick a level: beginner (9×9, 10 mines), intermediate (16×16, 40 mines) or expert (30×16, 99 mines).
- Click a square to open it. A number tells you how many of the eight squares around it hide a mine.
- Right-click a square you think hides a mine to flag it. On a phone, press and hold, or turn on Flag mode.
- Open every square without a mine to win. Click a number whose mines are all flagged to open the rest around it.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I lose on the first click?
- No. Mines are placed after your first click, away from that square, so the first click always opens an area.
- How do I flag a mine on a phone?
- Press and hold the square, or tap Flag mode and then tap squares to flag them.
- What does clicking a number do?
- If you've flagged as many squares around a number as the number says, clicking it opens all the other squares around it. If a flag is wrong, a mine goes off.
- Is my best time saved?
- Yes, for each level, in this browser on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- Is Minesweeper free?
- Yes. It's free to use, with no sign-up and nothing to install.
