How to use Language Shadowing
- Open Language Shadowing and choose the language you are practising.
- Tap Listen to hear the phrase. Switch to the slow version, change the speed or loop it until it feels familiar.
- Say it along with the voice, then tap Record yourself and say it once on your own.
- Hear the voice and then yourself back to back, and compare the two pictures.
- Rate it yourself: Not yet, Close, Good or Easy. The phrase comes back sooner or later depending on what you pick.
Frequently asked questions
What is shadowing?
Shadowing means repeating a phrase out loud right after you hear it, or along with it, copying its rhythm and sounds. Hearing yourself next to the voice makes the differences easy to notice.
Does the app tell me if my pronunciation is right?
No. It does not listen to your recording and gives no score. You compare the two takes and rate how it went, and your rating decides when the phrase comes back.
Where do my recordings go?
Nowhere. The microphone is only used after you tap Record yourself. The take stays in your page's memory so you can play it next to the model, and it is gone when you leave the phrase. It is never saved, uploaded or counted.
Whose voices are these?
The phrases are spoken by computer-generated voices, made once and stored in the app. They are not recordings of real people, and nothing is generated while you use the app.
Can I use it offline?
Yes. Once the app is installed, all three languages work with no connection: the phrases, the voices and your progress are on your device.
What if my microphone is blocked or missing?
You can still listen, say the phrase out loud and rate it. The app explains how to allow the microphone if it was blocked.
How does the schedule work?
It uses the same spaced-repetition method as the other review apps here: a phrase you rate Not yet returns within minutes, and one you rate Easy waits days or weeks. Nothing piles up: each day is capped by your goal.
Which languages are there?
Spanish, French and German, for English speakers, with sixty phrases each in six decks: greetings, café, travel, numbers and time, small talk and feelings.
