How to use the Image Metadata Editor
- Choose or drop a JPG, PNG or WebP photo. HEIC, TIFF and AVIF photos can be opened to read their details.
- Look through everything the file holds, grouped into camera, photo settings, location and more.
- Change the title, description, author, copyright, keywords, date taken, camera or location. Leave a field empty to remove it.
- Save a copy with your changes, or remove every detail at once.
Frequently asked questions
- Does editing the details change the picture?
- No. Only the hidden details are rewritten; the picture is copied exactly as it was, so the quality stays the same.
- How do I change the date a photo was taken?
- Pick a new date and time under Date taken and save a copy. Photo galleries that sort by date taken will use the new one.
- Can I add or move a photo's location?
- Yes. Type the latitude and longitude in decimal degrees (south and west are negative), check it with See on a map, then save. Clear both boxes to remove the location.
- Why does another app still show the old title?
- Some photos keep a second copy of their details for photo-editing apps, and those apps read it first. Tick Also remove the second copy of the details before saving.
- Is my photo uploaded?
- No. Your photo is read and saved on your device and never leaves it.
- Is the Image Metadata Editor free?
- Yes. It's free to use, with no sign-up and nothing to install. Your files stay on your device.
