Frequently asked questions
- Which format should I use on a website?
- WOFF2. It's the smallest and every current browser supports it. Add WOFF only if you need very old browsers.
- Does the font change?
- No. The letters, spacing, kerning and other features stay the same. Converting between TTF and OTF redraws the outlines in the other format, which can drop hinting (small-size tuning for screens).
- Can I convert a variable font?
- Yes, to WOFF or WOFF2 and back. Changing a variable font between TTF and OTF isn't supported yet.
- Am I allowed to convert a font?
- Check the font's licence. Many free fonts allow it; some paid fonts need a separate licence to use on a website.
- What happens to my files?
- Your font is deleted as soon as it's converted. Your new font is available to download for 1 hour, then it's deleted too. On a paid plan, your files and results are kept in My files until you delete them.
