2027 has 365 days and 261 weekdays (Monday to Friday). Public holidays aren't included in that number, because they differ by country, state and employer: subtract the ones on your list that fall on a weekday. For example, central government offices in Delhi have 11 gazetted holidays on weekdays in 2027, which leaves 250 working days. You can check any month or any custom period in the free date calculator.
Weekdays in each month of 2027
The first column counts every Monday to Friday. The second subtracts the weekday gazetted holidays for central government offices in Delhi and New Delhi, as per the Department of Personnel and Training's 2027 holiday order (16 July 2026). Use it as a worked example, check the current DoPT notice for any changes, and remember your own list may differ.
| Month 2027 | Days | Weekdays (Mon-Fri) | After Delhi central govt holidays |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 31 | 21 | 20 (Republic Day) |
| February | 28 | 20 | 20 |
| March | 31 | 23 | 20 (Id-ul-Fitr, Holi, Good Friday) |
| April | 30 | 22 | 20 (Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti) |
| May | 31 | 21 | 19 (Bakrid, Buddha Purnima) |
| June | 30 | 22 | 21 (Muharram) |
| July | 31 | 22 | 22 |
| August | 31 | 22 | 21 (Janmashtami) |
| September | 30 | 22 | 22 |
| October | 31 | 21 | 20 (Diwali) |
| November | 30 | 22 | 22 |
| December | 31 | 23 | 23 |
| Total | 365 | 261 | 250 |
Several holidays in that list fall on weekends in 2027 (Independence Day and Milad-un-Nabi, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Guru Nanak's Birthday and Christmas), so they don't reduce the working-day count at all. Id-ul-Fitr, Bakrid and Muharram depend on the moon and can move by a day.
By quarter
| Quarter | Weekdays |
|---|---|
| Q1 (January to March) | 64 |
| Q2 (April to June) | 65 |
| Q3 (July to September) | 66 |
| Q4 (October to December) | 66 |
For India's financial year, which runs from April to March, the 2027-28 year starts with Q2 above; the January to March 2028 quarter isn't in this table, so count it separately in the calculator.
Why 2027 has 261 weekdays
A common year has 365 days: 52 full weeks plus one extra day. The 52 weeks always contain 260 weekdays. The extra day is the weekday the year starts on. 2027 starts on a Friday, so it has 53 Fridays and 260 + 1 = 261 weekdays.
That's also why the number changes from year to year: between 260 and 262, depending on which day the year starts on and whether it's a leap year. See leap year rules for why some years have 366 days.
Subtract your own holidays
- Get your holiday list: your employer's list, your state government's notification, or your bank's.
- Remove any holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
- Count the rest in each month and subtract them from the weekday column.
To check a single month or any period with the calculator:
- Open the free date calculator and choose Days between dates.
- Set the Start date to the first day, such as 1 March 2027, and the End date to the last day, 31 March 2027.
- Tick Include the end date (count both days), so the last day counts.
- Read Weekdays (Mon to Fri): 23 for March 2027. Subtract your weekday holidays.
The guide to counting business days between dates explains exactly which days are included and how to find a date a set number of business days away.
If you work Saturdays
The weekday figure is strictly Monday to Friday. 2027 has 52 Saturdays, so a six-day week has 261 + 52 = 313 days before holidays.
Some workplaces have alternate Saturdays off. For example, Indian banks are generally closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month under the RBI holiday rules (check your bank's list); 2027 has 24 of those, leaving 28 working Saturdays. Check your own office's rule, then add the working Saturdays to your weekday count.
Week numbers in 2027
Many offices plan in week numbers rather than dates. In the ISO system (weeks start on Monday), 1 to 3 January 2027 still belong to week 53 of 2026, and week 1 of 2027 starts on Monday 4 January. 2027 has 52 ISO weeks, the last ending on Sunday 2 January 2028. The free week number calculator shows every week of the year with its dates, in ISO or US numbering. See what week number it is for how the systems differ.
What working-day counts are used for
- Salary and attendance. Some employers pay per working day or calculate leave encashment per day; the rule for the daily rate is in your policy.
- Project planning. Capacity for a quarter is working days times people, minus planned leave.
- Deadlines quoted in working days by banks, courts and government offices.
- Leave planning. Spotting holidays that sit next to weekends; see the 2027 long weekends planner.
