How to play Ant Colony

- Pick crumbs, sugar or fruit and click the ground to drop some; stones and leaves make obstacles.
- Turn trails on to see the scent: pink leads to food, blue leads home. Busy trails get stronger, unused ones fade.
- Speed things up, bring on rain, and watch the queen turn the stored food into eggs, larvae and new workers.

- Each ant wanders and follows the scent it finds. An ant carrying food home leaves a scent trail, so more ants find the same food, and the trail grows while the food lasts.
- Why do the ants go back inside?
- Rain floods the surface and washes the trails away, so the ants shelter in the nest until it dries. Ants also head home after a long trip with nothing found.
- Does the colony grow?
- Yes. Food carried home is stored, and the queen turns it into eggs that become larvae and then workers. Without food the colony slowly shrinks as old ants die.
