How to use Expense Split
- Open Expense Split. It works on this device straight away; sign in with an EveryApp account to keep your groups on all your devices.
- Make a group for the trip, flat or night out, pick its currency and add the people in it.
- Add each expense: what it was, how much, who paid and how to split it.
- Open Balances to see who owes whom and the fewest payments that settle everything. Tap Record when someone pays back.
Frequently asked questions
- How can I split a cost other than equally?
- Choose how to split each expense: equally between the people you tick, by shares (one person has two shares, say), by percentage, or by exact amounts. The app tells you how much is still left to assign before you save.
- How does settling up work?
- Balances shows what each person is owed or owes, and a short list of payments that settles the whole group: the person who owes most pays the person owed most, and so on. When someone pays, tap Record and their balance updates.
- Do my friends need the app too?
- No. One person keeps the group and adds everyone's expenses. You can copy or share a plain summary of who owes whom with the group whenever you like.
- Are the amounts exact?
- Yes. Amounts are kept in whole cents (or the smallest unit of the group's currency) and every split adds up to the full cost; a leftover cent goes to the first person in the list.
- Who can see my groups?
- Only you. Your groups stay on this device unless you choose to sync them to your EveryApp account. Synced or not, they're never sold or used for ads, and you can download or delete them any time.
- Is Expense Split free?
- Yes. It's free to use, with no sign-up and nothing to install.
